Description
The narrow straits of Air Hitam Dalam Educational Forest is a small patch of freshwater swamp forest at the northern end of the state and it provides sanctuary to such feathered jewels as the Mangrove Pitta, Ruddy Kingfisher and Black-And-Red Broadbill. A number of migrants also pass through the locality and some will also remain here for the winter. It is also the best place to see nocturnal species like owls and nightjars.
Not too far from here lies the coastline of Teluk Air Tawar – Kuala Muda which has been gazetted as an Important Bird Area. Each year, thousands of waders and other shore birds will find refuge here during the winter months up north and this is certainly one of the best wader sites in Malaysia.

10:00 am - Depart from Air Hitam Dalam Educational Forest
Leave the forest and head to the next birding location.
10:30 am - Arrive at Permatang Pauh Paddy Fields – Birding
Discover the rich birdlife of the paddy fields, home to various migratory and resident species. This area provides excellent opportunities for spotting waders and other wetland birds.
1:00 pm - Break For Lunch (your own cost)
Take a relaxing lunch break before continuing your birdwatching experience.
2:00 pm - Continue Birding
Resume birdwatching in the paddy fields, where different species may appear as the day progresses.
4:00 pm - Depart from Permatang Pauh Paddy Fields
Conclude your birdwatching tour and begin the journey back to your hotel.
5:00 pm - Drop off at hotel
End your trip with a drop-off at your hotel, bringing home memories of Penang’s diverse birdlife
